The Deva Radio Concert Series

As a community radio station, Deva Radio is very keen to organise as many community-based events as possible, particularly if we can provide a service not currently available. One way in which we have done this is through our Classical Concert Series.
Every few months we hold a concert of classical music, performed
by young musicians from in and around Chester. The aim of this is to give them a chance to play in front of an audience of strangers as well as "on the radio". We record the concerts digitally and then edit them, ready to be broadcast on Sunday afternoons during our August 1996 licence.
The concert series would not be possible without a couple of very supportive organisations. Chester City Council's Arts department have provided us with a grant which enabled us to purchase some microphones to ensure a top-quality recording, and Philips Consumer Electronics, have loaned us some DCC digital recorders onto which we record the concerts.
To become involved, either as a helper or as part of the audience, just highlight the relevant boxes below. If you do not have Email access, you can ring Chris Stevens on 01244 325555 or 0585 526797.
THE FIRST CONCERT was held in Chester Zoo's Lecture Theatre on
6th July 1995, and although somewhat hastily thrown together due to some licence difficulties, it was well attended and featured the Chester Schools Dance Band who had featured on Granada TV earlier in the month. One of the highlights of the evening was an excellent rendition of Weber's "Concertino for Clarinet" performed by Massimo Di Trolio, and the other highlight was the raffle which featured a tub of well-matured "Chester Zoo Poo".
OUR SECOND CONCERT was located in the atmospheric surroundings of
Chester Steam Mill on 7th December 1995, and included Benjamin Britten's "Ceremony Of Carols" SUNG BY Chester Catholic High School choir. Almost completely sold out and very popular, we were pleased that over 60 young musicians participated in this one concert alone.
THE THIRD CONCERT was also held in the Steam Mill, and included musicians from a wider range of schools than ever before, and included the first ever solo singer - local student Jo Dennis performing Gerswin's "Summertime" to a VERY appreciative audience!
THE FOURTH CONCERT? Well, it's still in the planning stage but we hope to hold the next concert sometime in August, whilst Deva Radio is broadcasting to Chester and beyond. This means that we will be able to publicise the concert over the radio, and we would hope to attract a phenominal audience. To ensure that you are informed about this concert, mail us using the box above. Happy listening!
